We have been putting design software in front of cabinetmakers since 1996 — back when most of them had never owned a computer.
How we started
In 1996, Jacqueline J. Knudson founded Pulsarusa.com to bring DecoTech, a Canadian design program, to customers in the United States. Jackie wanted to give the people around her — small interior design and furniture businesses — the kind of software that until then only large firms could justify.
It was a harder sell than it sounds. The woodworking trade had almost no software to speak of, and nearly every cabinetmaker and remodeler was still drawing by hand. Most of Jackie's prospects had never used design software, and a good many did not own a computer at all.
Persuading someone to buy a computer, learn to use it, and then buy a program to run on it was three decisions, not one. With her husband Ted Knudson working alongside her, they made it. Inside a little over a year they had sold DecoTech to thousands of customers across the United States, Canada and beyond.
Jackie died of cancer on 31 July 2010, at home, with her family around her. The way she ran this business — patiently, and on the side of the small shop — is still how we try to run it.
Why we built Pro100
By the mid-2000s DecoTech had stopped keeping up. Rather than sell our customers something we no longer believed in, we launched Pro100 in July 2006: a design program built around how a cabinet shop actually works.
The 2008 downturn arrived two years later and took a great many shops with it. Pro100 came through it, largely because the people using it told other people about it. It has been developed continuously ever since.
What Pro100 does
You draw the job once. The same model produces the 3D view you show the customer, the dimensioned elevations and floor plans your shop builds from, the cut list, and the price. Change a door style or move a partition and all of it changes with you, because there is no second file to keep in step.
It is used by cabinet shops, closet companies, kitchen dealers, remodelers and millwork manufacturers — the industries page covers the range, and you can see some of the shops working in it. The features page goes through what it can do.
Pro100 is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. The licence is yours, and choosing not to take an upgrade does not switch anything off.
